.dwg
The .dwg format was originally developed as the proprietary file format of Autodesk® AutoCAD® in the early 1980’s. Thanks to the work of ODA starting from the late 1990’s, seamless .dwg interoperability has become ubiquitous within the industry, and the .dwg format is as popular as ever with billions of files in existence.
Moving Beyond Interoperability
Today ODA is at the forefront of new .dwg development with the following initiatives:
- Version History. Git-like technology for storing and accessing the revision history for a .dwg file, a powerful feature for .dwg authoring tools.
- Exchange. ODA supports a number of CAD formats, and our Exchange technology makes it easy to convert these other formats to .dwg.
ODA’s .dwg technology is available through the Drawings toolkit.
DGN
The DGN format was originally developed in the 1980’s by Intergraph, and is widely used today as the primary file format for a number of products from Bentley Systems.
Strategic Partnership with Bentley Systems
Bentley has a strong commitment to their customers. Part of that commitment is to directly support ODA’s development of an independent solution for DGN, thus ensuring the viability of DGN as a long-term solution for engineering data storage.
ODA’s DGN technology is available through the Drawings toolkit.
Autodesk® Revit® Files
Autodesk® Revit® is a leading design application in the AEC market, specializing in Building Information Modeling (BIM). It was first released in the early 2000’s. Historically the lack of a stand-alone toolkit for Revit® files has made interoperability with Revit® challenging.
ODA released the industry’s first stand-alone toolkit for Revit® file interoperability in early 2017. The toolkit has been enthusiastically received by the industry, particularly for companies who work with Revit® files from web-based applications.
ODA’s Revit® file technology is available through the BIM toolkit.
PRC
PRC (Product Representation Compact) is the preferred 3D format used in 3D PDF files, and is defined by an open standard ISO-14739 finalized in 2014. ODA released its first version of PRC support in 2015, and has been steadily expanding the capabilities of its Publish SDK to enable the creation of increasingly complex 3D PDF files.
ODA’s PRC technology is available through the Publish toolkit.
